Growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands region, I longed for the bright lights of the big city. It seemed nothing ever happened in Somerset County, and I was determined to escape as soon as possible. Upon graduation, I succumed to the lure of the biggest of the big cities, New York, and headed off to Pratt Institute to study fine arts. Although loving New York, after four years, I decided it was a bit too big for this country boy and that the world of fine arts was not for me. I became a chef; what followed were stints all over the country including: Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Colorado, West Virginia and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Although all of these locations had much to be said for them, all had drawbacks which made me long for the hills of Pennsylvania.
This blog is dedicated to showcasing the travel opportunities in Western Pennsylvania from an insider’s view point. I’ll try to tell you about the deals, the hidden gems, and the ins and outs of what the region has to offer. I’m not an expert on everything that goes on here, so, from time to time, I’ll have other writers fill you in on other subjects. My only rule is to give it to you as straight as I see it. And, of course, I’d like to hear from you. Opposite opinions, questions, and comments will all be appreciated.
